The art collection began with the acquisition of James
Jackson's Middle Harbour from Manly Heights, 1923.
Paintings have since been donated from artists such
as Margaret Preston, Thea Proctor, Will Ashton and
Lloyd Rees. Our most famous painting, Tom Roberts'
The Flower Sellers was donated in 1936. In 1940 Antonio
Datillo Rubbo donated more than 100 of his own works.
Our extensive collection now comprises of over 845
watercolours, prints, etchings, drawings and paintings.

Beginning in 1968 with the purchase of works by Peter
Rushforth and Hiroe Swen, we have been developing
our renowned ceramics collection. The collection represents
a diversity of techniques, aesthetics and artistic
practice. From traditional wood fired, salt glazed
and oxide treated works and pieces influenced by Japanese
and Chinese techniques to contemporary, post-modern
works. Our collection includes works by Les Blakebrough,
Shiga Shigeo, Sandra Black, Jenny Orchard, Toni Warburton,
Greg Daly and Patsy Hely.
