Thousands of People Affected by Bushfires and Floods Need Urgent Help Today
Last week, a fast-moving fire sparked by lightning burned its way through the Shire of Waroona in WA. Over 2,000 residents were forced to evacuate and around 130 homes have been lost. The town of Yarloop was hit particularly hard and two people were killed by the fires.
On the other side of the country, the recovery effort for communities affected by the recent Victorian surf coast fires is underway. And in the Northern Territory and parts of New South Wales, terrible floods are now subsiding and people are returning to their homes to face the damage.
Families are piecing together what they have lost, trying to stay strong for their loved ones, wondering how they will ever get back on their feet.
Red Cross staff and volunteers are there, giving comfort, care and practical advice about how to link up with vital services.
The Red Cross encourages Australians to support families and communities by making an urgent donation now.
Every donation received for Disaster Relief and Recovery work means the Red Cross can continue to be there for families in crisis, providing emergency shelter, supplies, practical advice and emotional support when all else seems lost.
