The Manly-Manado Walk 2014
The Start is located at Ellery’s Punt Reserve, the park north-east of Spit Bridge and just south of Avona Crescent, Seaforth.
The Finish is located on the grass bank in front of The Manly Art Gallery, West Esplanade, Manly.
The 2014 Manly-Manado 10km sponsored Walk (from Spit Bridge to Manly) is celebrating its tenth year on Saturday, 6th September. This year's Walk is raising funds for 50 mothers and babies at Compassion's Child Survival Programme in Manado, Indonesia. It will also celebrate the great progress that has been made in alleviating global poverty, specifically in the areas of infant mortality; maternal health and water and sanitation.
Every day 19,000 children die, most from entirely preventable causes, before their first birthday. The Child Survival Program aims to prevent premature death, secure good health and enable positive development in the youngest, most vulnerable children. The program also assists pregnant mothers, at-risk babies and infants and their mothers and caregivers by providing critical interventions such as medical assistance, pre-natal care and nutritious food.
In the year 2000, Australia joined with the leaders of the nations at the United Nations to consider what the new millennium might look like. They committed to achieve eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) aimed at halving extreme global poverty by 2015. The Child Survival program also supports the Millennium Development Goals 4 (reduce child mortality) and 5 (improve maternal health)
To date, over 2,000 people have taken part in the Manly-Manado Walk experiencing one of Sydney's most beautiful scenic walkways from Spit Bridge to Manly. In doing so, over $243,000 has been raised and this year we are aiming to raise a further $30,000 for the 50 mothers and babies in Manado.
On the day you will also be given a picture of a mother and baby from the programme in Manado whom you can walk for. So why not invite your friends, family & colleagues to join in! It promises to be a fun day for young and old alike. There will be plenty of refreshments along the way with a sausage sizzle, kids activities and live music at the finish. Please note, children must be accompanied by an adult.
Cost: Taking part and creating a fundraising page is free but each walker should aim to raise at least $150 each.
Register: Please go to the website link to register and set up your own personal fundraising page.
