Bahá'í Temple

The Bahá'í House of Worship

The Bahá'í Temple is located in Mona Vale and is a highly visible landmark above the Northern Beaches.

The temple sits 40 meters high from its base to the peak of the dome. Like all Bahai Temples, this building has nine sides and nine entrances, symbolically representing unity. Surrounding the Temple, on nine hectares, is a wide variety of Australia’s indigenous flora and fauna.

Construction of the Bahá'í Temple began in April 1957 and completed in 1961. John Brogan was the architect for the temple, Brogan and his team “Welch Bros” were the ones responsible for the unique building as as no other previous building had been constructed this way in Australia.

The Temple is open to the public from 9am until 5pm everyday off the year and public services are held every Sunday at 11am. At the service you will hear readings from the holy writings of the major world religion and listen to the uplifting voices of prayers sung in harmonious tones. There are no sermons, or collections, or priests because there are no rituals and no clergy in the Bahá'í faith.

The Bahá'í Temple welcomes all visitors regardless of their beliefs, background and world view. Visitors are welcome to use the communal picnic area, refreshments are served in the picnic area following the public service held every Sunday. The Temple is an inspiration hub for activities within and outside the Bahá'í community throughout Sydney and beyond.
