Newport
Newport features numerous cafes and restaurants offering both local and international cuisines.
At Newport the main road changes from multiple lanes to mostly single lanes as you wind your way north to the Northern Beaches peninsula. Early mornings, particularly on weekends and public holidays you will discover many bike enthusiasts enjoying the challenge of Barrenjoey Road sharing the road with motorists.
Newport is situated between Bungan Beach to the South and Bilgola Plateau to the North. On the east is the Tasman Sea and on the west side is Pittwater, it's waterways providing access to most water sports, from yachting to scuba diving and surfing, and wind surfing.
Newport is also home the the Northern Beaches' popular Newport Arms Hotel offering fine dining bistro dining and beer garden with spectacular views over Pittwater.
A jumble of rocks south of the north headland known as 'The Peak' shapes two separate breaks that attracts surfers.
One of Newport's most distinctive features is a broad flat rock platform at the south end of the beach. The full-size saltwater lap pool atop the platform is an iconic feature of Sydney's northern beaches.
The area came to be called Newport from about 1880.
