Whale BeachPalm Beach sits on a peninsula at the end of Barrenjoey Road, between Pittwater and Broken Bay. Palm Beach is located on the Northern Beaches approx 40km north from Sydney's CBD.
Palm Beach was named after the Cabbage Tree palms livistona australis that were near Cabbage Tree Boat Harbour. The plant's species name gave origin to Livistona Lane, off Palm Beach Road. In 1900 most of the land except Barrenjoey Headland, (which had been purchased by the government in 1881), was divided into 18 large blocks, listed as good grazing land, and offered for sale. After none sold, in 1912, the land was offered again in smaller residential blocks.
Palm beach is nestled on a landmark peninsula, blessed with a unique contrast of lush evergreen bushland and beaches of golden sand, enveloped by the pristine blue waters of the Pacific Ocean and the calm sailing paradise of Pittwater.
Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Club was established in 1921. Palm Beach, is also where the TV Show Home and Away is filmed, better known to audiences as Summer Bay.
