All remaining beaches on the peninsula will resume lifeguard patrols this weekend kicking off the 2018/19 season.

While Manly has its flags up all year round and Dee Why and Freshwater have been patrolled since the beginning of September all the remaining beaches will activate patrols this weekend (Saturday 29 September).

Councils General Manager of Environment & Infrastructure, Ben Taylor said Council works closely with all 21 Surf Life Saving Clubs to ensure the safety of our visitors.

“The weather is warming up and that means we can enjoy the many beautiful beaches our region is famous for.

“Both Council lifeguards and volunteer lifesavers do a tremendous job with over 10.5 million people visiting our beaches last season alone.

“Council provides a proactive approach to beach safety that seeks to increase the level of knowledge, skills and awareness of all current and prospective beach visitors.

“To minimise beach safety incidents beach-goers are reminded to know their capability, swim between the flags, read the water conditions, follow the direction of lifeguards and beach signage and if you’re not sure, ask a lifeguard for advice.

“And don’t forget to cover up from the sun’s harmful rays.

Council works in cooperation with volunteers from the surf lifesaving clubs at weekends and on public holidays and is grateful for their ongoing and valuable contribution over many years.
