If you can imagine being on stage performing to a mass of people who are totally enthralled in your music then the Northern Composure 2019 band competition could be your ticket to stardom.

Northern Composure is an annual local band competition for young people with an average age under 19 years old.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said Northern Composure is the largest and longest-running youth band competition in the area.

“This year marks the 18th anniversary of this fantastic event.

“If you are a young person in an unsigned local band you need to apply – this is a great comp as it offers musicians local exposure as well as invaluable stage experience.

“We’ve produced some amazing talent over the years and we hope one of the bands can go on and make their dreams of becoming a successful professional band a reality.

“We are thrilled to continue to nurture and support emerging musicians through this competition and as a bonus, there is over $10 000 in total prize pool on offer,” Mayor Regan said.

The competition involves three rounds of heats which will be held at locations across the Northern Beaches in March, followed by the final at the PCYC in Dee Why, on Friday 12 April as part of National Youth Week celebrations.

Last year’s winners, Astral Plane went on to support Kingswood and the Delta Riggs at the PCYC as well as playing at various gigs around the Northern Beaches. While 2017’s winners Black Iguana have recorded an EP and been gigging around Sydney including the All Ages Band Night at the PCYC in Dee Why. Lime Cordiale, a previous winner, have been touring nationally.

To qualify for entry, the average age of band members must be 19 or under, with no single member over the age of 24.
