Northern Beaches Council has completed the upgrade of the Forestville War Memorial Playing Fields.

New public amenities were recently completed which included male and female toilets and an accessible toilet, larger change rooms in the existing clubhouse and new sports storage facilities.

Mayor Regan said the new facilities marked the end of the improvement works.

“Council has invested $6.5 million in this upgrade and we are very excited about what it offers the community on many levels.

“The synthetic fields have been in use for a few seasons now and offers the community all-weather use; a premier surface no matter what season it is. It also costs less to maintain.

“This sporting hub adjoining our Forestville and Killarney Heights communities now meets the current and future needs of the community and will be enjoyed by thousands of soccer, rugby, netball and cricket players – young and old.”

“I am also particularly proud of working with the Community Committee to deliver the ANZAC Memorial Pathway which commemorates the contributions of Australians to the First World War.”

As part of the works, two full-size synthetic football fields and an upgraded rugby field were completed in 2015, a purpose built off-leash dog park and refurbished skate park completed in 2016 and new netball courts, shared paths and lighting in 2018.

Forestville RSL War Memorial Playing Fields Community Committee president Richard Gordon said the RSL worked closely with Council through the upgrade program.

“After five years, Council in conjunction with the Community Committee which represents all the sporting clubs have completed this magnificent upgrade and we thank them for the management of this work.”

Council continues to investigate other opportunities to convert more sporting fields to artificial turf and to provide higher quality sporting facilities for our local children.
