The multi-award-winning Convict Footprints is back at Q Station in March to tell the stories of our past on the site of Sydney’s former Quarantine Station.

Convict Footprints Quarantined!’ premiered at Q in September last year as part of the Manly Arts Festival and the troupe is stoked to be back at the site for another run.

The Convict Footprints team of actors are enthusiastic about the rich history of Australia. With no stage and no limits, audience members are invited into a “theatre in the wild” experience, walking around the site and interacting with the cast.

“Convict Footprints Quarantined was a top notch show. Loved it!”

As a member of the Convict Footprints Quarantined! audience, you will be “processed” into Sydney’s Quarantine Station as if it were 1972. From there, your journey winds its way down through the Q Station site and goes back further through time as the audience is led through a series of scenes depicting life and conditions over the years, meeting some eccentric characters along the way. This creative journey sends its participants backwards through the past, led by ever-changing Quarantine Station Nurses to discover where it all began in 1828 on the shore of North Head, Manly.

“Another great show. Love how you guys bring our Aussie history to life.”

"The Footprints team are stoked to be creating one of our shows in this incredible venue and to be working with the wonderfully energetic team at Q. The history here, the bring those alive and re-tell them, to really bring the audience in to the experience- this is what we're about," said Jerry Retford, Artistic Director of the not-for-profit Convict Footprints Productions, "in our shows there is no fourth wall, no idle voyeurism - this is real immersive experience and we drag the audience - rarely kicking and screaming though! - through the site and scenes of life through the years at the Manly Quarantine Station."

Helen Drew, Q Station Visitor Services Manager, is similarly thrilled to be working with the Convict Footprints team, “to be bringing the history of the Quarantine Station to life in such an entertaining way is an amazing opportunity for us and our visitors. We encourage them to combine this unique theatrical experience and make a weekend of it; stay in our heritage accommodation and enjoy dining at the Boilerhouse Restaurant during your visit.”

Indeed, guests have the opportunity to enhance their Q Station experience by booking a show and dine or accommodation package. Convict Vittles includes a show followed by lunch at the historic Engine Room Bar; Convict Gourmet Tucker includes a show followed by a two course dinner at the Boilerhouse Restaurant & Bar; and Convict Billet includes a show followed by a night’s accommodation in the former quarantine rooms.

From the award-winning creative team that has previously brought four historical sites to life over five unique productions, Artistic Director Mr Jerry Retford and talented wordsmith Mr Steven Hopley joined forces once again to bring the Q Station site to life in another immersive “theatre in the wild” living history experience.
