Council Approves Long Reef Surf Club Funding Proposal

A proposal to finance the redevelopment of the Long Reef Surf Club has been endorsed by the Northern Beaches Council at its meeting on Tuesday evening.

The redevelopment is estimated to cost $6.9 billion based on quantity surveyor estimates for designs submitted with the development application.

More than $3.1 million funding will come from the Stronger Communities Fund and $1.9 million from the federal government with Council contributing the balance.

Northern Beaches Council Mayor Michael Regan believes the project will be an invaluable asset for the community now and into the future.

“It was also terrific to see three levels of government come together to partner with our local surf clubs.

“Once completed, the project will not only support surf life saving activities, it will also provide important community spaces and facilities,’’ he said.

“The process has been detailed, however with facilities such as training rooms, a kitchen and a storage room for life saving equipment, it will be a great place in the area for people to enjoy.”

Over the past 2 years, Council staff have worked closely with Long Reef Surf Life Saving Club, architects and other community members to ensure the club building and associated community facilities provide fit-for-purpose amenities for club members and the community, and also fit in with the natural environment.

“We thank them for their contribution and support for this amazing project,” Mayor Regan said.

Work is expected to commence later this year after a construction tender is awarded.
