Council Revamps Collaroy Parking to Free Up Car Spaces, Support B-Line Commuters

Northern Beaches Council has announced changes to the time restrictions at four of its off-street carparks in the Collaroy Beach precinct.

The changes to parking arrangements follow two comprehensive rounds of consultation with the local community and businesses in response to tighter parking availability in the Collaroy Beach area since the introduction of the B-Line bus service in November 2017.

Mayor Michael Regan said the changes include shorter-term parking in some nearby Collaroy carparks so more people can enjoy local attractions and support local businesses, whilst continuing to provide all-day parking in the Collaroy Beach commuter carpark Monday to Friday.

“The main limitation to increasing dedicated commuter parking in Collaroy is the local topography and the lack of suitable space to build or otherwise acquire commuter parking,” said Mayor Regan.

“Collaroy’s beautiful beach, busy playground, cafes, shops and cinema attract many visitors who compete for parking with commuters in the local Council carparks, too.

“The new arrangements should make it easier both for local people to find a parking space when stopping for lunch, going to the movies or visiting the beach or playground and for commuters heading off to work in the city.

“Generally, the community indicated that it wanted to retain the parking used by commuters during the week but also wanted to have a mix of parking time-restrictions in the southern carpark on weekends to assist with the surf club patrols, so families could enjoy time at the beach, the cinema and local restaurants, too,” said Mayor Regan.

The new off-street parking arrangements are:

  • Collaroy Beach Carpark (North) - 120 spaces total, 7am-7pm, split into two sections:
    Section 1 (82 spaces: 12P Monday – Sunday) and
Section 2 (38 spaces: 12P Monday – Friday, 4P Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays).
Time restrictions will apply to all users.

  • Collaroy Beach Middle Carpark (south of Collaroy Beaches Club) – 10 spaces total, 7am-7pm, 1P every day. No change to disabled car parking spaces.

  • Collaroy Beach Playground Carpark - 72 spaces total, 7am-7pm, split into two sections:
Section 1 (45 spaces: 12P Monday - Friday and 6P Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays)
    Section 2 (27 spaces: 4P every day).
No change to disabled car parking spaces.

  • Collaroy Street Council Carpark - 18 spaces total, 7am - 7pm, 2P every day. Time restrictions will apply to all users.
