Council Support for Local Contractors to Boost Local Economy

Northern Beaches Council has approved a $500,000 program of minor repair works to footpath, kerbs and gutters, as part of a strategy to boost business for local contractors and stimulate the local economy.

It is proposed the works will be completed over a three-month period from September this year.

The program would be broken into packages of approximately $50,000 (excluding GST), with a maximum of $100,000 (excluding GST) awarded to any one contractor.

Mayor Michael Regan said Council, in looking at options to boost the local economy, had identified an opportunity to develop a program of concrete works targeted at smaller local concreting contractors.

“Many of these smaller contractors are on Council’s approved list of concrete contractors to work on things like vehicle footpath crossings and driveway crossings and have the capability to undertake minor concrete works,” Mayor Regan said.

“It’s really important in this subdued economic climate that Council does whatever it can to help the local economy get back on its feet.”

Expressions of interest will be sought in early July.

This project is on top of a broader $1.2 million support package established at the beginning of the COVID-19 emergency for local business that includes fee waivers and reduced rent.
