Four families from drought-affected Mullaley, 38km west of Gunnedah, will enjoy will enjoy a well-deserved break at Manly Beach this week, supported by Council, Royal Far West and other generous local businesses.

The trip is the result of conversations between Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan and Gunnedah Shire Mayor Jamie Chaffey who was in Sydney in December sharing the terrible impact the drought continues to have on rural and regional communities.

“The drought is biting very hard and is really taking a toll on lots of families in the west of the state,” Mayor Regan said.

“Council has an opportunity to assist by providing a break by the ocean for residents in our sister shire Gunnedah who are doing it tough.

“I am pleased we will be able provide some respite for at least a few of these families over the summer holidays before kids go back to school.

“It’s also great to have Royal Far West, Manly Surf School, SailAbility and others step up to help provide the families with a great time while they are here.

“We have a very generous community.”

Royal Far West have kindly helped out in terms of accommodation, and Council has a number of exciting activities planned for our visitors.

The families arrive Wednesday 8 January and will stay at Royal Far West until Sunday.

Whilst in Manly they will learn surf safety with Council lifeguards, enjoy a few hours on the water with SailAbility volunteers and learn to surf.
