Create and Connect at Creative Space

Are you an artist looking for an inspiring space to create and connect to other creative people?

The Northern Beaches Artist Studio program has four studios available for hire in 2020 by artists, emerging to professional, and applications are now open until 31 October. Weekly hiring fees range from $40 to $60 per week.

The studios are located in Creative Space at North Curl Curl.

Mayor Michael Regan said the program was designed to provide much needed working space for local artists.

“Local artists have told us they find studio space to be expensive and hard to find. Council has responded by providing affordable facilities such as Creative Space and the Northern Beaches Artist Studio program.”

“Our studio program includes subsided hire fees, ongoing support from an arts and culture development officer as well as inclusion in the annual studio artist exhibition.

“In addition to this, the studio program offers peer support and networking opportunities with the local creative community. “Many artists who had previously used the space have said the studio gave them the ability to focus solely on their artistic practice.”

Recent Studio Program artists said they found the studios a great way to reinvigorate their creative practice and build new networks and audiences for their work.

“My residency at the Creative Space was a very inspiring time as we were sharing ideas in a collective of artists working with different art forms and themes. This opportunity is a leap of freedom and creativity. It will help you focus on your work as well as exposing it to the community,” Elisa Krey said.

Fiona Chandler said: “My time at the studio gave me a dedicated space to explore my practice, to allow thoughts and ideas to be explored. Discussions with the other studio artists were invaluable and to see so many creatives who exhibited their work was a true education.”

And artist Marisabel Gonzalez said: “The Creative Space provided more than a physical space to create.  It was a space to connect, to learn, to find myself. A place of growth and where a dream came true and a hobby became a career.”

Applications to hire the studios can be made via Council’s website.
