Fancy having your picture taken standing alongside Don Bradman, Marilyn Monroe, Albert Einstein or even the Queen.

Well now is your opportunity. It’s all part of Northern Beaches Library Service’s ‘Tech Trek’ Technology Roadshow’ at Warringah Mall Library on Tuesday 8 October from midday to 2pm.

Getting your photograph taken with ‘virtual celebrities’ via augmented technology will be just part of the fun at the launch event which aims to help people get online and thrive in a digital world.

The roadshow will visit all six Northern Beaches Library branches as part of ‘Get Online Week’ (14 -19 October).

Mayor Michael Regan said the use of augmented technology at the launch illustrates, in a fun way, what technology is capable of doing.

“You don’t have to be Albert Einstein to experience the latest in smart and digital consumer technologies,” said Mayor Regan.

“Come along a find out how you can live smarter with online technology. From online shopping and banking, to keeping in touch with friends and relatives, to streaming your favourite movies and learning new skills, modern technology is making it easier for everyone to get connected.”

Library staff will demonstrate how to stream digital content, explain how to make the most of mobile apps and give tips for staying safe online.

The ‘Tech Trek’ Technology Roadshow will be at the following branches between 10am and 2pm:

  • Glen Street Library - Monday 14 October
  • Manly Library.- Tuesday 15 October
  • Dee Why Library - Wednesday 16 October
  • Forestville Library - Thursday 17 October
  • Warringah Mall Library - Friday 18 October
  • Mona Vale Library - Saturday 19 October

The ‘Tech Trek’ Technology Roadshow is funded through ‘Be Connected’, a Federal initiative to get all Australians online.

Northern Beaches Libraries holds ‘Be Connected’ workshops throughout the year. They are interactive and engaging for people of all ages.

The sessions are designed to increase the confidence, skills and online safety of all Australians.

From learning how to use a computer or tablet to boosting your productivity with Microsoft Office, learn to stay safe online and stay in touch with family and friends. Bookings are essential.
