East-West Rapid Public Transport Link a Game-Changer for the Northern Beaches

The announcement of a rapid transit from Dee Why to Chatswood is a welcome and necessary addition to the public transport infrastructure on the Northern Beaches.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said Council and residents had been calling for this critical link for some time and it was exciting to see it finally on the table.

“This will be a game changer for so many of our residents who work along the Dee Why to Chatswood corridor,” Mayor Regan said.

“It will encourage cars off the road and improve journey times for long-suffering commuters along this route.

“Best of all it will ensure we have viable public transport infrastructure in place ahead of the planned development in Frenchs Forest.

"The B-Line has proved that if you build it, they will come. Its popularity on the city commute shows how successful the east-west link is likely to be. And with the commuter car park at the PCYC already operational, it’s a no brainer to get this in place as soon as possible.

“It will also help us get the best outcomes for both the Frenchs Forest and Brookvale Structure Plans.

“I look forward to working with the government on the finer detail to maximise the service for our residents.”

Mayor Regan said the announcement was another example of what can be achieved by the broader scale and capacity of the amalgamated Council.

“We have been advocating for this infrastructure for many years and now, as one voice speaking for the whole Northern Beaches, Council is able to better partner with the state government to see real outcomes for our community.

“Following the announcement of caps on boarding house unit numbers last week, we can see the concentrated advocacy from our new Council, alongside our community, paying dividends.

“Hats off to all the dedicated Council staff who have worked hard over many years to see this finally come to fruition and to our state members of parliament for getting it over the line.”
