Exciting Design Concepts Unveiled for New Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club

A new Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club is a step closer with Northern Beaches Council approving concept designs for community feedback.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the plans, which will open for public comment from Monday 7 May until Monday 4 June, are the result of a successful collaboration between Council, Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club and the appointed working group.

“The new surf club will significantly benefit our professional and volunteer lifeguards who provide such invaluable services to the community.

“It will also provide enhanced facilities for all of the Northern Beaches community to enjoy in this spectacular location.

“Our objective has been to create a beautiful new building that will be a much loved community asset for decades to come,” Mayor Regan said.

With the idea for a new club originally conceived by the former Pittwater Council, the project has been made possible with savings and funds secured as a result of the Council merger including the State Government Stronger Communities Fund.

“I’m very pleased the shared vision for Mona Vale Surf Club can be made a reality thanks to the Council merger savings,” Mayor Regan said.

The concept plans have been prepared following the completion of a feasibility study which highlighted the viability of the project.

There is also strong support from the community. Initial public consultation included the formation of a working group comprising representatives from a cross section of key stakeholders who contributed to the design concept.

The proposed design will keep a similar footprint to the current building while also approximately doubling the current floor area of the club and include tenancies for both a restaurant and a café. It will also address current storage issues and improve the accessibility and useability of the surf club as a whole.

Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club President Bryce Munro said the collaboration process with Council had so far been fantastic.

“The representatives from our club involved with the working group and Council on this project are very impressed with the process in reaching these concept plans.

“Our members are thrilled to finally have a new club because the existing club is well past its use by date,” Mr Munro said.

Community members are invited to have their say at one of the two drop-in sessions on Saturday 12 and Saturday 19 May between 9 - 11am, or online.
