The very popular ARTDECKO Workshops are back! Council is running three workshops during March which allow young people aged 10-24 to design their own skate decks with the guidance of professional artists, then enter them into our exhibition.

The first Workshop is being run THIS Saturday!

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said more workshops are being run due to the ever-growing popularity of skateboarding and art across Northern Beaches.

“ARTDECKO is a Council-run initiative which allows skate and art enthusiasts to paint their skateboard deck with a personalised design. This art form provides a creative outlet for young people who may not be interested in more traditional forms of art.

“Everyone that attends a workshop is eligible to enter their skate decks into our exhibition. Last year we had twice as many entries than ever before, with nearly 200 skate decks on exhibition - 160 from young people and the remaining from guest artists who have donated their time.” Mayor Regan said.

The Workshops will be run on Saturday 9, 16 and 23 March from 4:30 - 7:30pm at Frenchs Forest, Mona Vale and Manly.

Bookings are essential and can be made by visiting the website. The cost of the workshop is $40 and includes; skatedeck, ARTDECKO 2019 T-shirt, exhibition entry and PCYC membership.

Again this year, in conjunction with National Youth Week, Northern Beaches Council will proudly host the fifth ARTDECKO Exhibition at the PCYC Dee Why for two weeks from 3 April - 17 April, 9am-5pm daily.

At the exhibition on the 14, 15, 16 & 17 April, Council will run a diverse range of Drop-In Workshops designed for young people.

The workshops are aimed to further explore art in skateboard culture including a fingerboard competition, mini ARTDECKO on fingerboards, a tote bag screen printing workshop and a cap painting workshop. Walk up bookings are welcome and cost $10 which covers all materials.

"Every person that attends the exhibition is eligible to vote for their favourite skate deck. People’s Choice Winners will be announced on Wednesday 17 April and receive five commercial printed editions of their decks" Mayor Regan said.

ARTDECKO is presented and supported by Northern Beaches Council, PCYC Northern Beaches, NSW Youth Week, Skater HQ and Humphreys Newsagency Manly.
