Got a Worthwhile Community Project? Have We Got a Grant for You!

Posted: 1 Jul 2018
Last year, six local tennis, rugby, football and bowling clubs were successfully awarded a share of the $100,000 grant.
Northern Beaches Council has committed $550,000 to its Grants Programs for 2018/19 and is encouraging the community to apply.

The three grant categories cover a broad range of interests and sectors of the community including Community and Cultural Development, Events and Sports and Recreation Infrastructure Grants.

Mayor of Northern Beaches Michael Regan said Council will provide a range of grants to eligible organisations to undertake projects or activities which meet several criteria.

“Applicants must demonstrate that they deliver significant, identifiable and tangible benefits to the Northern Beaches community.

“A small grant can make a real difference to community based organisations. It’s definitely worth applying.” Mayor Regan said.

The grant categories include:

Community and Cultural Development Grants

Council is seeking applications for the Community and Cultural Development Grants to support local organisations to deliver projects and programs that deliver community and cultural benefits across the northern beaches.

Council has $240,000 available for this category. Grants between $2,000 and $10,000 will be available for applications that best address the assessment criteria.

Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Grants

Council’s Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Grants program aims to increase opportunities to participate in sport, recreation and active play. It also aims to improve the safety and the viability of sport and recreational groups and develop more family friendly facilities.

There will be $100,000 available with a minimum grant value of $10,000 and the project must be for new infrastructure or the upgrade of existing infrastructure on a Council owned or managed facility.

Last year, six local tennis, rugby, football and bowling clubs were successfully awarded a share of the $100,000 grant.

Events Grants

The Events Grants Program will see eligible organisations or groups receive funding for innovative events taking place across the Northern Beaches.

“The Event Grants Program aims to build the skills and resources of the community to deliver a rich and diverse calendar of local events that promote community participation and celebrate our unique social and cultural fabric.” Mayor Regan said.

Council has $210,000 available for this category. Funds run across three streams and include local events or place-based activations, regional events and major events.

To be eligible for a grant, applicants must be incorporated not-for-profit organisations; however, individuals and unincorporated small groups may apply for a grant but must be auspiced by an eligible organisation.

Each grant program will have its own eligibility, objectives and assessment criteria with clear guidelines and application forms to be completed online.

“I really encourage people to attend the sessions we have scheduled to find out  more about the grants and how to apply. I know there are many deserving people in our community who would really benefit from one of these grants.” Mayor Regan said.

The following information sessions are being held at Dee Why Civic Centre:

Community and Cultural Development and Events Grants: Tuesday 3 July (10am - 12pm) and Wednesday 4 July (6 - 8pm).

Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Grants:  Monday 2 July (10am – 12-pm) and (6pm – 8pm)

There will be two general grant writing seminars held on Thursday 5 July (10am – 12pm) at Dee Why Civic Centre and (6 – 8pm) at Manly Town Hall

Applications for the 2018/19 round open at 9am, Thursday 28 June with varied closing dates.
