The winners of Northern Beaches Libraries Services History Week photo competition were announced at an awards ceremony last week at Mona Vale Library.

This year’s theme Old Things in My Neighbourhood captures what is old on the Northern Beaches like a house, a shop, a tree, a letterbox or a doorknob.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said this year’s theme presented endless opportunities.

“We received over 400 really varied and creative entries which celebrate the modern heritage of the Northern Beaches.  It shows how many important things can be captured in our own backyard.

“The entries are a great legacy for the future as they add to the layers of our already very rich heritage. I encourage the community to come and see the entries,” Mayor Regan said.

The 2018 History Week Instagram photo competition winners are:

Joseph Eagland – Frenchs Forest

Greg Barber – Mona Vale

Anneliese Kegel – North Narrabeen

Steve Dubè – Frenchs Forest

Lena Garand  - Narrabeen

Maureen Hanly - Davidson

This year’s competition was judged by illustrator Ben Brown, photographer Cameron Bloom and multi-talented Miguel Gonzalez.

Judge Cameron Bloom’s impressive career began at just 16 when he began surf photography. Since then his work has been featured in many international publications including New York Times, Harpers Bazaar and Vogue.

Ben Brown said that he had great fun judging the competition again this year and that there were some really great images.

The six winners will each receive a $200 prize.
