This month Broadway Sydney unveiled their collaboration with five highly respected Sydney artists as part of their Level 1 refurbishment. Art from each of the artists will transform the levels of the shopping precinct as part of the ‘Art for All’ installation.

‘Art for All’ opened on July 26th further adding to the artworks already installed around the interior and exterior of Broadway Sydney.  The centre now hosts 8 bespoke columns and murals, as well as the previously installed Mulga façade and mural by Sydney’s world-renowned artist Sophi Odling.

Sophi Odling’s site-specific mural is inspired by the new interiors of Broadway Sydney. Combining geometric lines and organic shapes that echo the floor detailing and lighting throughout the centre. Using a range of organic and recycled materials, eclectic techniques and bold designs, the new artworks will engage with the public and enhance their experience at Broadway Sydney.

The artists hail from across Sydney. Blue Mountains based artists Tamara Mendels specialises in a technique called ‘pour’ where epoxy resin hardens rapidly, allowing the artist only minutes to create the piece.  Amy Roser, from Bondi, uses an array of materials to bring her work to life including dried acrylic house paint, laser cut wood and many other materials that try to subvert their usual uses. ?

Leesa Knight’s pieces explore the repurposing and transformation of common, natural and unusual waste. The artist from Allambie Heights utilises discarded objects gathered from public places, business sites and home. She connects and reconfigures her materials to unearth both beauty and form.

Mia Kokkoris strives for new imaginative concepts using her love of mosaics. More recently her designs have incorporated fused glass, which has added a deeper dimension to her work. Doing her bit for the environment, the Brighton Le Sands based Mia loves to salvage and recycle objects, making fun art as the end result.

All the artists use colour and kinetic shapes that draw you in to create a light and happy encounter with their viewers, which was a particular criteria for selection of the artists and works by Broadway Sydney.

Christina Nelson, Senior Development Manager, at Mirvac Retail said, “The Broadway community is very much defined by its love of art. Whether you are an artist or an admirer, this title tells the story – ‘Art for All’ is intended to be enjoyed by everyone.

“We at Broadway Sydney are passionate about transforming our spaces to benefit our local community. We want our customers to feel comfortable in our spaces and take an ownership of the areas we create,” she said.

Nelson pointed to a further example as part of the Broadway refurbishment with the recent installation of airwave charging facilities to provide a convenient way for visitors to charge their devices on the go, eliminating an everyday hassle.

The ‘Art For All’ pieces are on display from the 26th July. Broadway Sydney invites the community to share how the new pieces make them feel, using only emoji’s for a chance to win a copy of the Urban Style book. Follow @broadwaysydney for more information.

‘Urban Style’ is dedicated to Sydney’s urban dwellers, a community with a diverse mix of people from a variety of cultures, with countless attitudes and life experiences. Through words, striking photography and illustration, Urban Style showcases a snapshot of Sydney’s urban style: urban people, urban living and urban tastes.
