More Time to Exercise at Council Sports Fields After Hours

By Northern Beaches Council
Archived 1 Sep 2021 - Posted: 3 Jul 2021
Council is extending lighting at 17 of its sport fields to allow people to exercise safely during the current COVID-19 health restrictions.

Lighting at the selected sports fields will extend to 9pm on weekdays and 6pm at weekends.

Organised team sports are not allowed under current Health Orders. However, up to 10 people are permitted to exercise outdoors while observing minimum social distancing of 1.5 metres.

Mayor Michael Regan said with more people working from home and stay-at-home health orders currently in force, extended lighting on sports fields will help spread demand for open space exercise areas.

“This will allow people to exercise safely over longer times.

“Council is looking at ways we can help lift the burden as much as possible on people enduring the health lockdown.

“Exercise is crucial for physical and mental resilience, so we hope people take advantage of these extended hours.”

The below selected fields deliver options in suburbs across the Northern Beaches and we’ll be monitoring the demand across the week:

  • Hitchcock Park Avalon
  • Avalon Netball hardcourts
  • Newport Oval Newport
  • Boondah Reserve hardcourts
  • Lake Park Reserve Nth Narrabeen
  • Griffith Park Long Reef
  • Curl Curl hardcourts (central zones initially and broaden if demand warrants)
  • Denzil Joyce Nth Curl Curl
  • Hardbord Park Freshwater
  • Keirle Park Nth Manly
  • LM Graham Reserve Manly
  • Bantry Bay Oval Nth Balgowlah
  • Allambie Oval Allambie
  • Lionel Watts Oval 1 and 2 plus the netball courts
  • Terrey Hills Oval
  • Killarney Oval
  • Forest Melwood Hardcourts

Current restrictions are in place until 11.59pm on Friday 9 July. Remember if you have the mildest of flu like symptoms, please get tested and remain at home until you receive your results. For the latest information visit NSW Health.

Inclement weather may affect use of playing fields. Check here for current playing field status.
