At Tuesday’s Council meeting a draft Community Development and Service Policy was adopted for public consultation and a new Community Service Hub in Manly proposed which is expected to be the first of many.

The draft policy will inform Councils future scope of community development programs and services which include the provisions of community service hubs within Council owned and managed buildings.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said activities undertaken by Council are complimentary to services provided and/or funded by other levels of government.

“We all know real estate is at a premium on the Northern Beaches and equally Council has a pivotal role in providing affordable community facilities to ensure the delivery of services address the social and cultural wellbeing of our community.

“Council has identified the ground floor of the Manly Soldiers Memorial Hall as an appropriate location to meet the needs for several community providers and we intend to discuss with them immediately how we move forward with the plan and get it established by the end of the year.” Mayor Regan said.

Other locations to be considered for Community Service Hubs include Dee Why, Brookvale, Mona Vale and Frenchs Forest.

The draft Community Development and Service Policy will be open for public comment on 1 March.

“Community groups go to the heart of our ethos on the Northern Beaches and make an incredible difference to the lives of so many.

“Council currently delivers a range of activities and services to the community including forums, seminars, newsletters, events, programs, community grants, the delivery of meals and counselling services to improve the quality of life for our residents.

“If we can improve on our delivery of services or add to them, make sure you submit your comments online for consideration.” Mayor Regan said.
