Northern Beaches Council is seeking community feedback on concept plans for a new surf club and beach facilities at Long Reef.

Mayor Michael Regan said it was exciting to be able to release the concepts for community input.

“This is one of those projects that has been a long time in the making and I am thrilled it is now in concept stage.

“The design is informed by extensive consultation with a stakeholder working group who have landed on a spectacular concept which balances the needs of all concerned.

“It’s modern and functional whilst being sympathetic to the spectacular location in which it sits, right by Long Reef beach.

“The design is low key and hugs the dunes and utilises natural materials where possible to blend in with the surrounding area.

“I’d like to thank all the stakeholders, individuals and community groups who have put in many, many hours alongside us and the architect to help us get to this stage.

“I encourage the rest of the community to take a look now and let us know what you think.”

The designs include three buildings on a similar footprint to the existing blocks. The surf club will have a two storey structure which includes a gym, training rooms, function room, kitchen and storage for surf craft. There will be a separate public amenities block, a café and community storage lockers.

Peter Kinsey, President of Long Reef Long Reef Surf Life Saving Club threw his support behind the draft concepts.

“Our Long Reef SLSC members are very excited about this opportunity to build a brand new club house and associated community facilities. The club strongly endorses the overall concept design, which integrates beautifully into the landscape and will help maintain the unspoiled and unique character of Long Reef beach,” Mr Kinsey said.

“Once completed, the facility will provide a welcoming centre of activity for the broader beach-loving community, as well as a long-term base for future generations of volunteer surf life savers to share their skills, conduct patrols and provide a safe beach environment for everyone to enjoy.

“Our club now looks forward to the next phase of the project to engage with the wider community and ensure that their insights and suggestions help the architects and Council project team to further refine the current concept design and planned rebuild."

Council is also hosting the following drop in sessions:
