Northern Beaches Walking Plan Community Consultation Open

Northern Beaches Council is developing a plan to guide the future direction and priorities for the construction of new footpaths and is asking the community to get involved.

Mayor Michael Regan said it was important to have a strong focus on improving not only the walking experience but safety for everyone.

“We want the community to help identify what is needed in our footpath network not just along busy roads but in their neighbourhoods so we can plan now for our future.

“Unfortunately we are currently a car dependent community, so improvements to the footpath network will hopefully encourage our community to leave the car at home and walk to school, work or public transport.

“We also recognise the health and recreational benefits of walking and want to encourage people to go out and experience our unique local environment on foot.

“We want it to be easier and more enjoyable to walk around and get to services like schools, shops and transport which are key to a happier, healthier and more active lifestyle in any community.

“By creating more direct routes to destinations, we can make our streets safer and accessible for pedestrians,” Mayor Regan said.

The Northern Beaches Walking Plan is part of an integrated approach to transport and forms one part of Council’s vision for a connected and accessible community.

Visit Northern Beaches Council website to have your say online and find out how to give feedback in person at one of the community drop-in sessions scheduled across the Northern Beaches. Comments are open until Sunday 4 March.
