Young musicians are being encouraged to apply to be a part of the biggest band competition on the Northern Beaches with a $10,000 prize pool and, for the first time, the opportunity to play at the popular Drop Festival.

Bands have until 5pm on February 14 to secure a spot, with heats to be staged at YOYO’s (Friday, 6 March), Mona Vale Memorial Hall (Friday, 13 March) again at YOYO’s (Friday, 20 March) before the final on Friday, 3 April at the PCYC in Dee Why as part of National Youth Week celebrations.

One lucky band will be hand-picked to perform at The Drop Festival at Keirle Park in North Manly on Saturday, March 14, where electronic duo The Presets are the headline act.

Mayor Michael Regan said it was a great opportunity for young people to perform in front of a live audience.

“Every year some great young talent emerges through this competition,” he said.

“It gives budding young bands a chance to work on their music, play in front of their peers at some great venues and if successful win and music and marketing package. You have to be in it to win it!”

The $10,000 prize pool includes:

  • The opportunity to perform at The Drop Festival in March
  • Marketing and publicity package from Perfect Pitch
  • Music production package to record a single from Jaminajar Music Production
  • Live recording of finalists set from Headland Music Studios
  • Product from Mall Music
  • Cash prizes

Events are all ages, alcohol and drug free, with security present.

Tickets are $10 through Eventbrite online.
