One of the greatest athletes in Australian track and field history, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor AM, will be guest speaker at Northern Beaches Council’s 2018 International Women’s Day Breakfast on Thursday 8 March.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said this year’s theme for International Women’s Day 2018 is #PressforProgress.

“Ms Gainsford-Taylor continues to be a source of inspiration and model of strength for girls and women everywhere.

“Northern Beaches Council are actively encouraging individuals and organisations to #PressforProgress by taking action that drives positive change for women.”

Ms Gainsford-Taylor is a three-time Olympian and remains to this day the Australian record holder in the 200-metre event.

In the 2017 Australia Day Honours List, Ms Gainsford-Taylor was awarded the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to athletics as a sprinter at a national and international level and as a role model for young athletes.

A mother of two, Ms Gainsford-Taylor is also a successful media commentator and noted for her ability to inspire audiences by sharing the challenges and successes of her international athletics career.

Ms Gainsford-Taylor is committed to coaching and mentoring aspiring athletes through her Explosive Speed Clinics, encouraging young people “to be their best and lead a healthy and active lifestyle” and motivating children to pursue their dreams.

Ms Gainsford-Taylor is also a National Selector for Track and Field and active in that role as the Australian team heads towards the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

“Ms Gainsford-Taylor is also proud to be an ambassador for the Can Too Foundation encouraging people to get fit and raise funds for cancer research,” Mayor Regan said.

The Northern Beaches Council International Women’s Day Breakfast will provide an opportunity to donate to the Can Too Foundation including the proceeds of a special event raffle.

The event will be held on Thursday 8 March, 7am - 9am, at Manly Golf Club, 38 Balgowlah Road, Balgowlah.

Tickets are $45 (including all fees) and can be purchased online.
