A family-run Northern Beaches organic produce home delivery business is to trial a ‘plastic-free’ organic produce and whole-foods ‘pop up’ market in Freshwater, including leafy greens, fruit, veggies, yoghurt and more.

The Organic Scarecrow Freshwater Produce Market will operate on a four-week trial basis on Sundays (8am - 1pm, starting 25 August) from the lawn of the Harbord Literary Institute building at 29 Lawrence Street (next to the Aboriginal Heritage Office).

Mayor Michael Regan said the pop up market aimed to provide a fresh produce option for locals.

“The Freshwater Produce Market is designed to address a community need identified since the closure of the local IGA supermarket,” he said.

“A local market should also attract new people into the Freshwater Village on a Sunday, potentially providing a boost to the business strip.

“I’m pleased we have been able to facilitate this trial and have selected an experienced and reputable local operator to deliver it.”

Market host Tim Satiu said he was excited to bringing this market to Freshwater.

“I’m passionate about the benefits of eating fresh organic produce and reducing the use of plastic and waste in general,” he said.

“I’m confident the Organic Scarecrow Freshwater Produce Market will create a positive local vibe, a weekly tradition where locals can shop, learn and connect.”
