Northern Beaches residents will enjoy having their views on older people challenged by a fascinating new ‘Art of Ageing Exhibition’ soon to go on show at Mona Vale Library from Friday 27 September to Thursday 31 October.

A learner driver, a gymnast and a ukulele player are just a few of the extraordinary older people who feature in the exhibition celebrating the lives of older people.

Mayor Michael Regan said the aim of the exhibition is to highlight the diverse and fascinating lives of senior citizens and to promote inclusive communities for all generations.

“Featuring the work of five distinguished photographers, the exhibition features 30 images expressing the joys of ageing and challenges commonplace negative perceptions of getting older.

“The ‘Art of Ageing Exhibition’ acknowledges and places value on seniors and their stories.

“It is not only important to celebrate the valuable contributions of seniors, but also challenge ageist stereotypes. This wonderful exhibition rises to that challenge,” said Mayor Regan.

“Seniors have diverse experiences, knowledge and skills and the ‘Art of Ageing Exhibition’ will showcase this to the wider Northern Beaches community.”

Commissioned by the NSW Government, the exhibition will travel eventually to 25 locations across New South Wales.

There will be a special exhibition launch at Mona Vale Library on the 3 October. Tickets are free and must be booked online at Council's Libraries website.

The exhibition artworks, stories and photographer biographies can be viewed online.
