Picasso and His Dog - A Magical Show for Children 4 Years and Over

A wild and adventurous story about Picasso and his naughty sausage dog, Picasso and His Dog, is coming to Glen Street Theatre 29 - 31 August.

Ideal for children aged 4 plus and their families, this delightful show is inspired by a true story. It celebrates the special friendship between the great artist and his dog.

In 1957, an elongated sausage dog called Lump arrived at the villa of the great 20th century artist Pablo Picasso.

Lump looked into the deep brown eyes of Picasso and decided he was home. And so began a great love between a man and his dog - a friendship that spanned 17 years.

But this was more than a friendship as Lump also became an artistic muse for Picasso, appearing in more than 50 of his artworks.

This work is a unique children’s puppet play that combines the art and story of Picasso with the extraordinary poems of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda and the text of Picasso’s contemporary and lifelong friend, Gertrude Stein.

It is a refreshingly original work, wild and adventurous.  Initially set in Picasso’s studio in the South of France, the story travels across time and space in a series of imaginative leaps.

It uses puppetry to transform the detailed set design as the performers play with scale, shadow puppetry, visual illusions, painting and sculpting on stage.

It is hard not to love a trip to the theatre with the little ones, watch their face as they soak up the magic of theatre, puppets and storytelling.

Using puppetry, set transformations and the making of live-art onstage, Picasso and His Dog is a visually stunning and delightfully fun work for all ages.

Picasso and His Dog has a perfect cast, brilliant puppeteering – or puppyteering – and is fun for kids and adults alike.” - The Border Mail
