Return of Library 2U Service During Health Lockdown

Councilís popular contactless library home delivery service has restarted from today to help Northern Beaches residents through the latest COVID-19 stay at home restrictions.

In time for school holidays, the Library 2U service lets borrowers order books online and have them delivered to their home as a contactless delivery.

Library2U was developed and implemented last year as a result of health orders requiring the closure of library branches. During the two month lockdown from April-June, Council’s Library2U program loaned 41,475 items through 18,047 COVID-safe home deliveries.

From today customers will have their favourite library items delivered direct to their home simply by ordering through the Library app.

With the current health restrictions in force until 9 July, Mayor Michael Regan said that Council wanted to help relieve the pressure on families being forced to stay at home during school holidays.

“Our six libraries are a treasured community service and judging by response during the lock down last year, the home delivery service is a hit,” Mayor Regan said.

“With so many of us working from home, kids home from school and regulations requiring us to stay indoors as much as possible, the Library2U service is the right service for the times.

“One of the buzzwords used during the pandemic has been how businesses have ‘pivoted’ their business models to stave off calamity.

“Council services are no different, so the Library 2U service is an example of how we have had to innovate to maintain an important community service.”

“Council is always looking at new ways to serve the community and it’s fantastic to have residents so enthusiastically embrace the Library2U program.”

There are two ways current library members can borrow through Library2U. Either they can choose their own items online or through Librarian’s Choice for children’s picture and board books.
