Six Sporting Clubs Share $100,000 in Grants
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the funding helps support local sporting clubs to install or build much-needed infrastructure.
“Sporting clubs are an important part of our local community, and they also encourage people to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“Investing in sporting facilities improves the viability of our local sporting clubs who do so much good work in our community.
“There were many worthy applications from clubs and associations across the Northern Beaches. In all, 20 applications were received requesting a total of more than $439,000.
“However, we only had a budget allocation of $100,000 so it was quite a challenge for our panel assessing the applications.”
The grants were awarded to:
- Careel Bay Tennis Club for the installation of sunshade over its playground
- Terrey Hills Tennis Club to upgrade lighting on four tennis courts with LED lights
- Narraweena Tennis Club to resurface two synthetic grass tennis courts
- Mona Vale Bowling Club to upgrade the driveway at the Mona Vale Bowling Club Complex
- Long Reef Golf Club to replace two emergency access gates and upgrade the entry to the multi-use building
- Mona Vale Golf Course to restore the path to the 11th tee.
The projects will provide a range of sport, recreation and community benefits including safer access into the Mona Vale Bowling Club Complex, improved emergency access into the Long Reef Golf Course and safer access to the 11th tee at the Mona Vale Golf Course.
They will also provide improved facilities for tennis at the Narraweena and Terrey Hills Tennis Centres and improved family-friendly facilities at the Careel Bay Tennis Centre.
Grant funded projects are to be completed by 31 May, 2021.
