‘Together more than ever’ – Youth Week activities Celebrate Unity
After 21 years as a national event, Youth Week from 16-24 April, will feature a range of activities and events ranging from sports, arts, music, fitness and leisure activities under the theme ‘Together more than ever.’
Mayor Michael Regan said it was exciting to resume the popular annual Youth Week activities after it was mainly cancelled last year due to COVID-19 fears.
“Youth were possibly the most affected by the uncertainty and disruption of the last year, so the theme of unity for this year’s resumed event program reflects solidarity and encouragement for our young people’s future,” Cr Regan said.
“Young people are doing so much great work in and around our community and Youth Week is a terrific opportunity to highlight the positive contributions they make in our local community.
“This year, Council’s youth team has worked with a number of local youth service providers to develop a diverse program to appeal to a wide variety of young people. Council’s Youth Advisory Group have also played a key part, being involved from early planning stages to eventual delivery of Youth Week activations.”
The first event to kick off Youth Week celebrations on 16 April is a 3x3 basketball competition held at the new outdoor courts in Warriewood, with the final event on 24 April an e-Sports competition.
As part of the e-Sports competition, parents are invited to join Game Aware for an online seminar on healthy gaming a balanced approach to e-Sports.
