History

So named after the confidence and ‘manly behaviour’ displayed by a group of local Aborigines spied in Manly Cove by Australia’s first Governor, Captain Arthur Phillip in 1788,  Manly has been attracting locals and visitors to its breathtaking shores for hundreds of years.

Celebrated as Australia’s first resort destination, see indigenous rock art and engravings along North Head or more modern historical landmarks like Manly’s Quarantine Station first used in the 1830’s. Explore Australia’s military and maritime history at the Former School of Artillery at North Head, walk the path of Olympians for 100 years of Manly champions or stroll the famous Corso built in 1855 as a link between Sydney Harbour and the Pacific Ocean.
